Isle of Skye Wedding Elopement Film - Chelsea & Hunter

As an Isle of Skye elopement videographer, Chelsea & Hunter’s stunning elopement ranks as one of my favourite ever shoots. Working alongside the supremely talented David Conaty photography, this day had it all - moody weather, a stunning bride and groom - all set within the dramatic mountains of Skye.

Chelsea & Hunter’s film is built around their backstory, with the couple’s voiceover setting the tone for the final cut. The edits starts with bridal prep - captured in Portree - and then follows the bride and groom to their intimate ceremony, which took place in the wilds that sit beside the Sligachan Hotel.

At the very start of the film, I wanted to show some of my journey up to Skye, and felt that the music from within my car (the Rolling Stones, who else) worked brilliantly in contrast to the landscape of Skye, which reveals itself within the opening frames.

The ceremony was delivered by Alyson Stewart, a humanist celebrant based in Fort William. It was here where I listened to Alyson detailing the moments that made Chelsea & Hunter’s elopement so unique, with stories from their home in Little Rock, Arkansas, framing the personal experience which we all shared that day by the Sligachan Hotel.

Being an elopement set in the Scottish highlands, the couple chose to do a traditional hand-fasting, followed by a drink from the Quaich - with a 12 year old Balvenie being  the dram in question, having been recommended by yours truly earlier in the day.

Later in the ceremony the couple were lucky enough to receive a royal salute courtesy of the Isle of Skye’s air ambulance service - something that definitely ranks as one of my favourite, and most memorable moments of the entire 2021 wedding season.

After the ceremony, the couple joined me as I drove to both the Fairy Pools and Quiraing for some intimate couple’s portraits. It’s here that I’d like to offer a special mention to David Conaty, not only for working as the shoot’s main location scout, but for also stepping out of his car en-route to the Quiraing to guide some highland cows out of the road, risking life and limb to ensure we arrived at our destination with time to spare.

Chelsea & Hunter were naturals in front of the camera throughout the shoot, and I feel so honoured that they chose Studio Lester to capture their intimate elopement on Skye. Working with these guys - not to mention David and Alyson - is something that I’ll treasure for always, and I can’t wait to get back to the Isle of Skye for more elopements in 2022 and beyond.
